Miriam Balaban si Ŕ laureata in Chimica presso l'UniversitÓ della Pennsylvania ed Ŕ stata ricercatrice al 'Center for the Philosophy and History of Science' dell'UniversitÓ di Boston per la fondazione della comunicazione scientifica. E' fondatrice e presidente dell'International Federation of Science Editors (IFSE) per il quale ha organizzato 12 conferenze internazionali in diversi paesi. Ha insegnato comunicazione scientifica e tutti i suoi aspetti come Preside e Professore della School for Science Communication 'Mario Negri Sud', Italia. Dal 1966 Ŕ editore di Desalination, la rivista internazionale per la purificazione e dissalazione delle acque (Elsevier Publishers), e di Desalination Directory, il database internazionale per la dissalazione ed il riciclo delle acque. Il Directory ha un link con l'indice cumulativo di Desalination che copre 39 anni della rivista (circa 60,000 pagine). E' segretario generale dell'European Desalination Society per cui dirige il programma e ne guida la politica, ed Ŕ stata membro del comitato e funzionario dell'International Desalination Association. E' stata membro del comitato dell'US National Research Council/National Academy of Sciences per lo studio delle mappe stradali statunitensi per la Ricerca sulla Tecnologia della Dissalazione. La prof.ssa Balaban Ŕ presidente di una compagnia di pubblicazione scientifica, International Science Services. Le sue pubblicazioni su riviste e libri hanno riguardato differenti discipline scientifiche.

 

Miriam Balaban graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in Chemistry and was a research fellow at the Center for the Philosophy and History of Science at Boston University, in the foundations of science communication. She is Founder and President of the International Federation of Science Editors (IFSE) for which she has organized 12 international conferences around the world. She has taught science communication in all its aspects as Dean and Professor at the School for Science Communication 'Mario Negri Sud', Italy. She is involved in policies of scientific editing and publication. From 1966 to date she has edited Desalination, the international journal for purification and desalting of water (Elsevier Publishers), she is editor and publisher of the Desalination Directory, the international database in desalination and water reuse, the Directory is linked to the cumulative index of Desalination, which covers 39 years of the journal (about 60,000 pages), including over 60 proceedings volumes. Prof. Balaban is the General Secretary of the European Desalination Society where she directs programs and guides policy, and she has previously served as a board member and officer of the International Desalination Association. She has served on a committee of the US National Research Council /National Academy of Sciences to assess the US Roadmap for Research on Desalination Technology. Prof. Balaban is president of a scientific publishing company, International Science Services. Its publications include journals and books in different scientific disciplines.
